Meet the Teachers & Director of ACE Academy!

Erin Butler, English Teacher

In addition to her Southern charm, Erin contributes four years of teaching experience to the ACE team.  She taught 6th grade Language Arts at Alexander Graham Middle School in Charlotte, NC.  She completed her student teaching at Grayson High School, where she instructed 12th graders on the joys of British Literature.  Before pursuing her masters in English Education, Erin lived in Venice, Italy, where she assisted twenty college students and two professors with day-to-day life in a foreign country. 

Erin earned her B.A. in English and Studio Art from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  She received her M.Ed. from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. 


Marjan Rotting, Science- Engineering Teacher

Marjan brings five years university and community college teaching experience. She taught Seismology with an emphasis on building design, oceanography and dinosaurs at the University of California, Santa Cruz and she taught oceanography and paleontology at the College of San Mateo. Most recently Marjan taught oceanography and environmental geology with an emphasis on sustainable building practices at Portland Community College. Gerald Weber Consulting, GeoEngineers, Inc., and GeoDesign, Inc. combined for her eight years of professional experience as a geotechnical and hydrogeologic consultant.

Marjan received her B.S. in earth science with an emphasis in field geology and received her M.S. in earth science with an emphasis in hydrogeology from University of California, Santa Cruz.


Doug Mella, Math Teacher

Doug began his thirteen year teaching career at St. Mary High School in New Jersey. He moved to California and taught math to middle school students before becoming a public school math teacher where he earned the honor of becoming Department Chair. In his most recent position, Doug was a teacher on
special assignment where he supervised eleven other teachers by providing support, coaching, and assessments.

Doug received his B.S. from BostonCollege in accounting and went on to earn his M.A.T./Single Subject Credential in mathematics


Randy Scott,  Engineering-Math-CTE Teacher

Randy brings a unique combination of engineering, wood science and math to the teaching profession. Randy began his teaching career as technology teacher at Don Bosco Technical Institute in Rosemead, California. He designed and taught Introduction to Engineering and Introduction to Construction. He also co-taught Introduction to AutoCAD. Randy performed his student teaching at Stayton High School in Oregon.

Randy received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University; earned his dual MS in structural engineering and wood science from Oregon State University; and received his MAT from Western Oregon University.


Jon Bardeschewski, CTE Teacher

Known as Mr. B to the students, Jon comes to ACE from a family of teachers. He has 12 years of experience in the field of carpentry and is a licensed building contractor in the State of Oregon. Jon has been involved in numerous remodeling projects, both commercial and residential.

Jon attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY where he received his BS in Physical Education and Psychology and his Masters in General Education. Jon is currently attending Portland Community College where he is working toward a degree in Architectural Design and Drafting.


Michael Taylor, Director

Mike has been in public education for more than thirty two years. Prior to his eight year tenure as Parkrose Superintendent and five years as Superintendent in Ontario he was High School Principal in Ontario Oregon. During his career he held positions as a high school teacher, social science department chair, high school and middle school counselor, career and technical education (CTE) counselor, alternative education coordinator and vice-principal. He is also adjunct faculty at Concordia University teaching graduate courses in school administration.


Kathy Kollenburn, Administrative Assistant

Kathy has worked in public education since 1992, with a diverse population and a wide range of ages, from elementary school to community college. Most of her career was with the Reynolds School District where she started as a Media Assistant and provided front end tech support to staff. She spent the last five years, prior to coming to ACE Academy, as Activities Secretary at Reynolds High School.

Kathy received an AA degree from Mt. Hood Community College and earned a dual major in Accounting Technology and Business Management.


Jan Wierima, Oregon Building Congress/ACE Academy Industry Liaison

Jan is the Program Manager for the Oregon Building Congress and also serves as ACE Academy Industry Liaison, developing partnerships and resources that serve ACE academic programs and all ACE students.  Jan has long experience in designing and developing industry-education partnerships and providers to support excellent, relevant academic outcomes for ACE students. She works to create projects that bring staff and students together with practiced professionals to ensure that learning at ACE always reflects industry needs and emerging trends and that all ACE students are prepared to take their next steps in learning and experience that will lead them to successful careers.

Jan graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Business Administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA and has a post graduate certification in Process Design, Consultation and Training.
